Privacy policy
For the iPhone app GhostShift (with its Apple Watch app) and the website ghostshift.app · Last updated: October 2026. The German version is legally binding.
In short
GhostShift works without an account and without a server of its own. Your drives, measurements, vehicles and photos are stored only on your iPhone. I never receive this data, and the app contains no ads, no tracking and no third-party analytics.

1. The GhostShift app
What is processed on your iPhone
The app only asks for permissions a feature actually needs. You can revoke each of them at any time in the iOS Settings.

The legal basis is the performance of the contract for using the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, where iOS asks for a permission, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; Section 25 TDDDG).
Apple Watch and Live Activity
The watch app mirrors live values from the iPhone, replays the start lights on your wrist and shows records and badges. The transfer runs directly between your iPhone and your Apple Watch, without any server. The Live Activity on the Lock Screen is also created locally.
Maps
Map views use Apple Maps (MapKit): the routes in your sessions and, if you switch it on under Setup, the live map in the cockpit (off by default). Your iPhone loads map tiles for the visible area from Apple. According to Apple, these requests are not linked to your Apple ID. Details: Apple's privacy policy.
Buying and subscribing to GhostShift Pro
The one-time purchase, the yearly subscription and the free trial run entirely through Apple's App Store. Apple is your contractual partner for the purchase and processes payment and account data as an independent controller. I receive no payment or account data — the app on your iPhone only learns whether Pro is unlocked. You can cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple ID settings.
Sharing and backups
Time cards, reel videos and backup files are created on your iPhone. They only leave the device when you send them yourself via the iOS share sheet, for example by AirDrop or message. Note that a shared route map can reveal places.
Crash reports and usage statistics
If you agreed in the iOS Settings to "Share With App Developers", Apple provides me with anonymised crash reports and aggregated usage figures. They do not identify you. You can switch this off at any time under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Recipients and third countries
No data leaves the app to me or to third parties. As operator of iOS, the App Store and Apple Maps, Apple is an independent controller for the data processed there; Apple may also process data in the USA and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Retention and deletion
App data stays on your iPhone until you delete it or remove the app. You can delete sessions, vehicles and best times directly in the app; uninstalling GhostShift removes all app data. I store no app data.
2. The website ghostshift.app
Hosting and server logs
The website is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany. When you visit, the server records technically necessary data in log files: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type and referring page. This serves the secure operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log files are deleted automatically after a short period. A data processing agreement with the host is in place.
No cookies, no tracking
The website sets no cookies, uses no tracking and loads no third-party content. Fonts and images are served from the same server.
Contact by email
If you write to me, I use your message and email address only to handle your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once they are no longer needed and no statutory retention period applies.
3. No profiling, no automated decisions
There is no profiling and no automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
4. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object (Art. 21). You can withdraw any consent with effect for the future. Since I receive no app data, I usually only hold emails you sent me yourself.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg.
5. Changes
If the app or the website change in a way that processes other data, I will update this policy. The version published here applies.
